High Adventure Opportunities
High Adventure Experience is for older scouts who meet or exceed the Troop Committee requirements. High adventure Scout Camp is the opportunity for older scouts to challenge themselves both physically and mentally.
High Adventure opportunities are available to scouts who:
- Have demonstrated maturity and leadership
- Meet physical fitness requirements
- Have participated actively in the troop
- Have completed required training
Philmont Scout Ranch - New Mexico
Philmont is the Boy Scouts of America's premier High Adventure base. Located in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of New Mexico, Philmont offers backpacking treks through 140,177 acres of rugged wilderness.

Northern Tier - Minnesota and Canada
The Northern Tier offers incredible canoeing adventures in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness of Minnesota and the wilderness waterways of Canada.

Florida Sea Base
The Florida Sea Base offers aquatic high adventure in the Florida Keys and surrounding waters.

Preparing for High Adventure
Physical Preparation is Essential:
- Start training months in advance
- Build endurance through hiking with a loaded pack
- Complete required medical forms
- Attend pre-trip training sessions
- Ensure you have appropriate gear
Funding High Adventure
High Adventure trips require additional funding beyond regular troop dues. Scouts who participate fully in the annual Tree Sale fundraiser receive subsidies toward their High Adventure costs.
